"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23)
This verse has been playing on repeat in my mind this week. And that's a good thing because on Monday morning I received some difficult news from home: that my Mum has turned a final corner in her cancer journey and will be under palliative care for the remainder of her days.
I have a little window of time in which I am able to visit with her this week, and so I am writing this Pastor's Note from the plane as I cross the Atlantic another time.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23)
These words are so powerful in moments of difficulty and struggle, aren't they? To be reminded that even in our hardest moments God's love, mercy, and faithfulness are not absent but are up close and present, is a deep encouragement. Because of the steadfast love and faithfulness of God, I know that my mum, my family and I will have all we need this day and every day. In the strength of the God who is able and mighty to save, we will make it through.
That's a word for all of us, and it is good news of great hope. Amen?
This unplanned absence is the reason we have had to postpone the class I was getting ready to teach with Dr. Anna Wright. I do look forward to re-scheduling it in the fall. In the meantime, why not join me in prayerfully sitting with that scripture from Lamentations again. Take a few goes at slowly and deliberately reading it through, breathing deep as you do, and maybe, just maybe they will become words of deep impact, comfort, and meaning for you too this week.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23)
