Who We Are

DSCN2735.JPG

At Memorial United Methodist Church, we believe that we are each on a unique faith journey.  The goal of our faith journey is spiritual maturity, seen most clearly as an increase in the fruit of the spirit (including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) in our words, actions and attitudes.

We honor our distinct history both internationally and locally and follow the guidance of The United Methodist Church to have “Open Hearts, Open Doors and Open Minds.”  We hear a calling from Christ to reach out in service, particularly to the poor and the least of these.

Having strong relationships with each other as a church family is important. As we grow in our discipleship, we support one another on their own journeys.

One of our greatest blessings here at Memorial is the presence of children around our church on Sunday mornings.  Children are always welcome and encouraged to be a part of the services.

We also offer communion each week at 8:00AM Service and the first Sunday of each month at 9:30AM and 11:00AM Services. All are welcome at the Lord's Table no matter your affiliation, your background, your place on the journey. Jesus welcomes all to his table.

To live fully into our vision, we follow these discipleship practices at Memorial:

  • Worship We’ll engage in worship with creativity, joy, and authenticity.

  • Study We commit to intentionally grow as mature Disciples of Jesus.

  • Service We’ll put our faith and love into action through compassion, mission, and service unto others.

  • Community We devote ourselves to drawing closer to Jesus and closer to each other.

To grow as a church family, we embrace Memorial’s core values:

Living Christ-centered Lives: We commit to the joy and responsibility of representing the grace-filled love of Jesus to our church family and to our community.

Being Rooted in our Wesleyan Heritage*: We strive for personal holiness by inviting people to experience God’s grace through a life-transforming relationship with Jesus. Together, through grace, we will fearlessly address issues of our time to model the world after the Kingdom of God.

Remaining Open and Humble: We approach scripture with both our hearts and minds so we can continue to grow, learn, and wrestle with difficult issues through grace and compassion. We admit that we do not know all the answers and will listen to each other.

Engaging with Our World: We want to serve our community as we serve ourselves and have the courage to follow where God is leading us to reach new people in new ways and places. (#LovesShowsUp)

Including All People: We value all ages and abilities in worship and church life because we are a family. We acknowledge that everyone is a child of God.

Embracing Newcomers and Each Other: We welcome everyone to this community of hope and love and recognize that God’s grace has no boundaries. Christ’s love supports and unites us all as we care for one another in the sacred space.
