FAITH AT THE MOVIES!

This is a brand new series designed to explore issues of faith through popular movies.  There will be a simultaneous movie and program for children, as well as nursery.  These movies have much to teach us about living faithfully today!  It is also an inexpensive night out to the movies.  Please come and invite others.  Movies will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Maxwell Hall.  Also, bring a comfortable lawn chair, pillow, or bean bag!

Ed Kilbourne

Summer Spiritual Renewal Series at Memorial United Methodist Church

With Ed Kilbourne, “The Time of Your Life!”

July 19-21, 2009

Sunday Morning Worship Services (8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.)

and 6:30 p.m. each Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday Evenings!

Returning to Memorial Church for his second visit, nationally known singer, storyteller and folk theologian, Ed Kilbourne, will be our featured guest Sunday morning in worship and for three evenings, Sunday through Tuesday, July 19th through 21st, 2009.

Over the years, Ed has been recognized and acclaimed for his ability to use his gifts as a musician and communicator in concert and worship settings.  He began his performing journey in folk groups while in high school and college.  Following his graduation from seminary, Ed set out on professional career and has now made over 8000 appearances during the last 40 years in every region of the United States.  Ed has 23 recordings on the Fly-By-Night label, including the new release, “A World Of Good”.  “The Grateful Ed Live”, a 4-CD collection of his songs and stories, is a favorite of those who attended his previous appearances at Memorial.  A collection of his stories and essays will soon be available online (www.edkilbourne.com) in the e-book, "The Gospel According To You".

The Lutheran Bishop of the South Carolina Synod, David Donges, introducing Ed as their Synod preacher in 2008, proclaimed him "a cross between Garrison Keillor and Jimmy Buffett".  What better combination of gifts and graces for a time of summer renewal and reflection by the sea?  Join with Memorial Church and our beach communities as Ed shares "The Time Of Your Life" in worship and concert this summer.

 July Mission Emphasis - -
Our emphasis for this month is Nassau Builders Care.  Since November of 2009, MUMC's Builders Care has built 4 wheelchair ramps, joined in a massive yard clean-up,  repaired a building, and  installed new doors for another church.   Our main emphasis is building wheelchair ramps for inviduals who need them for various reasons.  The high end cost of building one ramp is $2,200.  Please give generously to this mission of MUMC.

Great things are happening at Memorial United Methodist Church!  The Spirit of God is moving and lives are being changed.  We are a congregation of loving and caring individuals who seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ every day of our lives.  We take seriously our call to United Methodist theology and beliefs and follow John Wesley's lead in working for social justice in our community and world.  Indeed we strive to "be the hands and feet" of Christ in all we do.

We invite you to come check us out - - and help us truly be people who open our hearts, our minds and our doors!
